A Volcano on the Scottish Isles
In late April 2026 we launched some new models, and with them came new challenges. As Madlen was taking a break at that time, we slid a special pair of shoes – our new Outdoor model Vulcão, the summer brother to last season’s Serra, into her suitcase, and she delivered her thoughts in a love letter to the Scottish Isles and the merits of this new hiking/cross-country boot.
Let’s hear from her!
“I spent a week hiking in Scotland’s Isle of Skye, walking through wide open landscapes, shifting light, and that quiet sense of space you don’t really find elsewhere. The weather surprised me, more sun than expected, long bright days with soft clouds drifting slowly overhead. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down without noticing.
Before I left, my team gave me a simple challenge: take the Vulcão and only that pair. No backup, no alternatives. Just one week, one pair, for the ultimate test.
And of course I accepted immediately – these boots were made for this! After Serra’s launch we felt straight away we wanted a light spring version, something perfect for nature hikes without compromising freedom – and they delivered!
But first things first, I needed a little color pop, so I changed the laces (by now they should be available in the online store for you to play ;)) if you want something more sober check out the original ones.
From the first steps, what stood out was how light they felt. Almost like having nothing on my feet. That sense of freedom stayed the whole week, moving easily, without weight or pressure, but still feeling protected from the ground. You notice the terrain, every change underfoot, but without discomfort. It’s a different way of walking, more aware, but also more natural.
Days were long and varied between dry paths, grass, rocky sections, and the occasional river crossing or deeper patch of water. In those moments, in the bog water at least ones found its way in, but it never became something I had to worry about. By the next morning, they were ready again.
Grip held well across most surfaces, especially on uneven terrain, though on steeper or slick sections I could feel where there’s still room to improve. That’s something we’re already working on, testing new materials to push performance further, especially for winter conditions.
What stayed with me most was how quickly I stopped thinking about them. After the first couple of days, they just became part of the experience, no adjusting, no second-guessing. By the end of the week, I realised I hadn’t once wished for another pair.
Out there, you don’t want distractions. You just want to move, take in the landscape, and feel free doing it.
Ready for an adventure? You can follow Madlen’s example and take the new Vulcão barefoot boots oot on your next hike!
